High electricity costs and erratic power supply prevent homeowners from freely using electricity the way they would wish to. There's no electricity to catch up on your favourite football match or power basic home appliances. This has in turn affected the quality of living and increased their dependence on generators which has high costs of maintenance (repairs and fueling), high utility bills, noise and air pollution.

The Agri-value chain consumes about 30% of the world’s energy. While energy is responsible for a third of agro-food systems emissions. The rising energy prices translate into higher costs of production, processing, storage, and transportation which also means higher costs for consumers. Given the severity of food insecurity globally, and particularly across sub-Saharan Africa, especially since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a growing need to put in place measures that minimise the adverse effects of climate change on agricultural production, and the increase in production cost through energy.

More than 60% of 121,000 health facilities in 46 low and middle-income countries lack access to reliable electricity.
